Simplifies Practice
As a current ZLAC coach and a former UC San Diego D1 athlete, I have little patience for the information overload and task inefficiency of current rowing apps. I wanted one app that actually solves the problem — for both the rower and the coach.
Tests AI As a Design Partner
I'm using Splyt to test something more specific: how far AI coding tools can carry a designer with no formal engineering background toward building something real. I'm treating my own life as the test case, (my schedule as a rower, my actual frustrations as a coach,) and seeing how much of that AI can translate into working software. However it can't decide what a rower actually needs to see at 4:50 in the morning — that judgment is still mine.
Bridges Theory and Practice Gap
Building Splyt end to end has adjusted my design process in very practical ways. The design principles I learned in undergraduate look different in practice than they do in the textbook. And I'm much more concerned with the outcome of the former. Identifying and closing this gap has also played a large role in my independent writing of defining cognitive science.
